MWCLA is thrilled to announce that we were one of the successful applicants in Round 1 of the Growing Regions Program, receiving $836,829 towards the development of our Opportunity Hub at 89 Durlacher Street.
The Honourable Catherine King MP, Minster for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government announced the successful applicants on 16 May 2024. We are over the moon our project was selected and cannot wait to get things underway.
This project has been a while in the making with the MWCLA Board purchasing the building in late 2022. Since then, we have been working with consultants and architects to realise their vision, the creation of an “Opportunity Hub” to support choices and create opportunities for people living with disability.
The Opportunity Hub will house an Independent Living Centre where customers can work to develop their practical skills and build capacity to undertake activities of daily living including personal care, bed making, and laundry and cooking in the training kitchen.
The facility will also contain our second social enterprise, a café, which will benefit the whole community, showcasing the amazing contribution people with disability make and fostering inclusivity by changing the way people view the employability of people with disability.
MWCLA will also relocate the office and current services to the new premises.
Be sure to follow our us on Facebook as we provide more details on this exciting venture and how you can be involved in the near future.
